Ed McManus publishes a very popular monthly newsletter about intellectual/developmental disabilities issues in Illinois.  He will be speaking about the Ligas Consent Decree, the PUNS process, the closing of institutions and much more, plus looking ahead to possible major changes in the system.  Attendees will leave with a better understanding of how to successfully navigate and influence this complex system.

Teaching strategies for children of ALL ages, starting in elementary school through adulthood, to boost Work Awareness and Soft Skills development so critical to success in today’s workplace as well as within the home, family, community and friendships.  Attendees will leave with practical, hands-on strategies for agencies, school teams and families to use at home to help their child develop skills for employment.

Thinking About Housing: Moving from “What is Available” to “What Does My Child Need and How Do We Create That?”

Overview of residential funding and traditional housing models of care in Illinois, followed by in-depth, practical and inspiring stories from families who have partnered with ISC and provider agencies to develop promising housing options customized to meet the individual needs and preferences of their loved ones.  Attendees will leave with practical ideas and advice about how to plan, build partnerships and work toward housing solutions.

The Details:

When:  Thursdays – September 25, October 16 and November 20 – from 10:00 to 1:30 p.m.  Doors open 8:30 to 9:30 for registration, networking, and introductions. Programs begin promptly at 10:00.

Where: Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 815 South Washington Street, Naperville

Cost:  $20/family member per session, $40/professional rate includes 3.0 approved CEUs per session.  Pay cash or checks payable to RGA on day of event.  Buffet lunch prepared by Catering with Care, a microenterprise operated by RGA participants.  NOTE:  Consumer Stipends to help pay for the costs of these presentations are available for family members and self-advocates; contact The Arc of Illinois prior to the event 815-464-1832 for application.
